Well, let’s break it down.
When we say the word ‘diet’ we mean your usual, daily eating pattern. In fact, we’re much more interested in what you eat every day, as a habit, then what you eat every now and then. That’s because what you eat every day has a much bigger impact on your health. And it’s why you’ll never catch us promoting quick fixes, detoxes, cleanses or any other fad diet or food trend that has no substance behind it. None of these things will actually help you.
Ok, so what should we be eating every day?
Answer: Whole foods, or more specifically, minimally processed foods.
These are foods that have changed very little between the farmer and you. Whole foods have more nutrients and are generally less energy dense, meaning they help nourish your body and manage a healthy weight long term.
Choosing whole foods regularly doesn’t mean you can never eat a processed food, quite the contrary. Processed foods do have a place in our diet, however, prioritising wholefoods, so they make up the majority of what you choose to eat will be the key to your good long-term health! Each day you should aim to include these foods: vegetables, fruit, nuts, seeds, legumes, whole grain, meat, poultry, seafood, dairy and eggs.
So how do you build a consistent intake of whole foods each day?
One super important key is that you ensure that they’re in your house! If there isn’t a consistent, fresh supply of fruit and vegetables in your home, you’ll make it difficult for yourself to include them regularly in your diet.
